Losing Weight The Natural Way

Losing weight can be an extremely challenging task. While it may seem tempting to try the latest fad diet or “magic” diet pill, generally neither of those options are healthy or effective as a long-term solution. There are plenty of natural ways to lose weight and keep it off. The ideal method includes a combination of eating a healthy diet and also getting adequate exercise. Here are some tips to get you started on your weight loss journey:

1. Do not starve yourself: Being on a diet does not mean restricting the amount of times per day you eat. In fact, it’s healthier to have several small meals and snacks throughout the day, keeping intense hunger at bay. Do not skip meals, and make sure you have smart snacks in between. Anything such as chips or cookies that contain “empty” calories are not wise choices for snacking. Look for food with a high protein content that will keep you feeling full longer. Some good choices are apple slices with a tablespoon of peanut butter for dipping, a string cheese, or yogurt with fresh fruit on top.

2. Choose your beverage wisely: You can easily cut out a huge amount of calories just by drinking less soda or alcohol. Drink an adequate amount of water each day (aim for eight glasses at eight ounces apiece). It’s okay to treat yourself to your favorite beverage on occasion, but your body needs water in order to properly function. Especially if you’re introducing exercise into your routine, it’s important to stay hydrated. A sugar-filled drink can easily contain more calories than you’d work off in a single exercise session.

3. Begin an exercise routine: Once you’ve begun eating healthier and drinking more water, you may find you have more energy. What better way to direct this energy than to exercise! Start small, and as you gain more stamina and muscle, increase the amount of time and energy you spend on physical activity. If you’re not used to exercising, walking can be a great low-impact calorie burner.

4. Keep track of your calorie intake: To lose weight, your body must use more calories than you take in. Sounds simple, right? Keep track of your daily calorie intake using a journal or an online website, and you might be surprised to find you’re consuming many more calories than you’d expect.
